9:15 pm - Back for now
|
So...it's probably bad that lj has a new banner since the last time I posted. Not sure how long it's been there, but yeah. Anyway, had an awesome trip to Ireland! Dublin was cool, but my favourite parts were in little tiny towns on the countryside. Kinda made me feel that I'd like to live somewhere smaller than Acton. Let the jokes commence. I just think there's something so cool about your family having been one place for generations, and everyone knows each other and all of that. Anyway, saw lots of beautiful nature, and cool architecture, amazing old historical buildings and things and such.
Leaving for Comic-Con in two and a half weeks! I'm so psyched for it. It's gonna be like epic frosting on awesome cake. And that may be the weirdest analogy I have ever made. Anyway, trying hard to stop squeeing to people about it here, since I'm pretty sure that they honestly don't care.

5:30 pm - My sudden penchant for emo poetry continues

Things break A cascade of shattered pieces fall Sunlight catches jagged edges A glimpse of warmth and a rosy glow A flash of promise Disappears Emptiness remains A black maw envours all The final piece falls Into the abyss Nothingness Gone.

4:43 pm - A Poem
|
thunder cracks but the sky stays dry now we're in the middle of the eye a flood cascades upon the ground the sky wonders why the girl does frown Can't she see what's up ahead? But the girl only sees her broken dreams - she sees things that can't be seen: the doors that lie in the worlds between. time is frozen the storm stands still one by one all things living wither and die still, the girl is standing there forever in the storm in the eye

4:35 pm - Back into the Belly of the Beast
|
So, I'm about to go back into practicum. To psych myself up for it, I thought I would put a motivational quote here.
When that life turned against us, we comforted ourselves in the knowledge that it really wasn't our fault, not really. You cannot play God then wash your hands of the things that you've created. Sooner or later, the day comes when you can't hide from the things that you've done anymore.
Wait, that's not it. The one I was thinking of is by Ralph Waldo Emerson: We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities.
There we go! Here's hoping this goes better than last time.

4:47 pm - Life
|
So...it's been a while. Apparently when there isn't much of anything interesting going on in my life, I have nothing to say here. Winter is cold, school is both boring and difficult. Hagga beasts are horrible. And if anyone actually got that joke, I would buy them a cookie. Lately I've been feeling like butter spread over too much toast (and if you didn't get that reference, shame on you). It's not so much that I have good and bad days. It's more like I have good and bad hours. I'm not looking for sympathy on this count - that's just the way that my life is these days, and I spend enough of my day pretending that it's not. My friends at school catch little snapshots of me, and the way things are, but never quite the whole truth. It's regrettable, in a way. On the other hand, it's necessary.
Anyway, that's okay. Because I have a new love in my life. A program that I can use to organize writing! It's like I died and went to OCD heaven. So I've been having lots of fun fiddling around with that over the last couple of days. Having everything organized should help me as far as writing goes, I hope.
Other than all that: tv, reading, stitching, gaming. Pretty much the old usuals. We just booked our trip to Ireland in the summer, so I can't wait for that!

In honour of the best holiday ever, I present, for your reading enjoyment, a Hayley obsession retrospective. Here's things that took over my life to unhealthy amounts and the degree to which this occurred:
1. Digimon - this was my first love, and will always have a special place in my heart because of it. I watched the new episodes every week (and got up early to watch the rerun before school every day), got a new email address related to the show, read fanfiction (as well as wrote my first piece ever) and was kind of in love with one of the characters.
2. Following this, came an obsession with numerous animes all at the same time (although never quite to the same degree as Digimon) - Pokemon, Card Captors, Escaflowne, Dragonball Z. To get an idea of how much I loved them, I tried learning how to draw manga. And that just speaks volumes right there. Me and art don't really mix.
3. Next came Harry Potter. Re-reading the books over and over again (and later, continually watching the movies), knowing insignificant details that other people find ridiculous. I started reading fanfiction by the pound at this point, and wrote quite a few pieces of it myself. I even dressed up as Lily for Halloween once. Oh, and again, changed my email address.
4. And this brings us to our present era in the life of Hayley. Vampires. This one has been going on for a number of years, but I felt it still deserved mentioning. I read a ridiculous number of vampire books, and I devour any show that involves them. I don't quite know what my fascination with them is, but I can just never get enough. In fact, I almost wanted to give the Twilight series its own category here, but it's really just a subset. When I read them, I honestly don't want to do anything else ever except for read. I don't wanna eat, I don't wanna sleep. I just want to read. I only read the series a couple months ago, but I've already started again. Sometimes with this, and previous things mentioned, I just get this kind of mental twitch and feel like I have no choice but to indulge in something (in this case, reading the books again). In this instance, I haven't written any fanfiction, but I do have the beginnings of an original story forming in my mind. If only I had the actual impetus to actually write it.
5. This doesn't quite fit into the timeline right - it started before number 4 and continues to the present - but Stargate must also be mentioned here, of course. I could go on and on about the ways I love it, but I'm going to Vancouver for Gatecon. 'Nuff said.
And this concludes our overview of the fandoms of Hayley. I regret nothing. However, the one geeky thing it occurred to me I haven't done but really want to? A zombie walk.

12:59 pm - She's not one of us!
|
So, by my count, I have already watched the Twilight trailer 7 times. Considering it's only been out a week, I can really see this reaching Tristan and Isolde levels. By the time that movie came out, I could completely quote every line in the trailer along with it. I mean, I can already quote Twilight, but there's only 7 lines in it, so that's not exactly a fair comparison. I know I shouldn't be getting too excited about this movie, but honestly, it's already too late.
Not a lot else going on in my life right now. I still haven't beat Assassin's Creed, and by this point, I'm thinking I probably never will. We're having a fight at the moment. Guess I'll just move on to Mass Effect.

Wow, I got kinda behind on this whole book review thing.
Not a lot else going on in my life at the moment. I'm heading to U of T on Tuesday for some information session thing to try to pick my cohort for the fall, which I'm all very confused about. Hopefully it will clarify things some. Also, I'm off my special diet. A girl can only avoid chocolate for so long until she cracks, apparently.
